This is an excellent squirrel baffle! I have a "squirrel proof" feeder - one that closes all feeding ports when a squirrel climbs on it - but the squirrels were still determined to chew on it until they got to the premium bird food inside. After reading other Amazon reviews, I decided to try this particular baffle for its quality and diameter. This squirrel baffle has kept them away. A couple squirrels have tried but I've watched them reach over the edge and slide right off the baffle missing their target completely. Luckily, they land on their feet! I forgot to take down my feeder one night and the raccoons managed to knock the feeder and baffle to the ground. I was shocked to see that the baffle survived the 12-foot drop. The plastic is sturdy and the provided hardware is quality hardware. Yes, it is expensive compared to others but well worth the investment. After a month of use, the plastic has yet to show any discoloration. I imagine I will have this for many years to come.

A good squirrel baffle actually serves two purposes being directly over a feeder. It most of the time keeps the pesky varmints that its designed to deter away, and it also serves as a roof in keeping rain away from the seed portals and helps them stay dry. There are people that buy baffles as protection from the weather even if they are fortunate enough not to be bothered by squirrels. The Aspects dome is certainly big enough to do both jobs. But it is no more effective than any other baffle of the same size and design that is much cheaper. If one sets out to buy a baffle just about anywhere of the dome variety, they will get a swift and severe education as to how expensive they are. You will come to believe that all baffles must have uranium in them somewhere to be so overpriced. The only exception to that rule that I have found is the dome that can be found at a local Tractor Supply company, or at the Tractor Supply website. They sell a full 15" gray plastic dome squirrel baffle for the unbelievable price of only $8.00. (At the time of this writing. It my be a little more now, but will forever be far cheaper than the Aspects). They are the same size as the Aspects and have the same double hook system. And they also come with an attachment for mounting the baffle on a pole if that serves your needs. They are so cheap and effective I ordered 10 of them at once for all my feeders. The only difference between the two is the Tractor Supply baffle is a solid gray instead of clear. Something I actually prefer since the clear ones only look clear for the first couple of Weeks anyway. From that time on they are never clear again. If you're in the market for a baffle, especially for more than one, forget this horrendously overpriced Aspects model and check out the squirrel baffles at Tractor Supply company. You will be most pleased, I promise you...

There are a lot of squirrel baffles out there. Most of them don't work.
This is for the simple reason that a squirrel can hang onto the center with his widdle back feeties. Then he stretches wayyy out over the Dome and sticks his widdle front footies over the edge.
They let go of their back feet and the dome will flip their back side over. However, their front feet and head will effectively drop straight down. Unless you have a long skinny cylinder feeder, they will be able to grab your bird feeder's ledge and swing themselves onto it.
Many feeders are 14-16 inch diameter, which is a 7-8 inch radius. Even adjusting for a bit of curve, the average squirrel from back foot to front paw is sufficiently long to pull off the trick above.
This baffle beats them. First, the 9 inch radius combined with the significant curvature means they cant get their front feet over the edge of the Baffle. Hence, when they try to let go or flip themselves over, their front side will still be on the plastic...which means they get pushed off to the side as they fall. This gives them no chance.
In my experience the smaller baffles were eventually beaten and I'd have a varmit sitting on my feeder everyday. Once I bought and put this bad boy up, it took care of the problem. They don't even bother to try anymore. A few attempts and they could see that they weren't gonna get anywhere fast. (vs the days and days spent figuring out and defeating the smaller baffles)
It IS expensive for just a few extra inches. However, the whole PI*(R-squared) thing plus the much more significant curvature means that this 18 inch model has almost twice the surface area (and thus material used) as the 16 inch ones. Therefore, I can see it costing twice as much as lesser models.
If you use a bird feeder that is bigger than 6 inches across including ledges or seed-catchers at the bottom, you will want this baffle.
